Pacifica, A Garden In The Siskiyous, Applegate Valley, Oregon

Among the ranches, farms and many wineries, in the picturesque and beautiful Applegate Valley we found Pacifica, A Garden In The Siskiyous.

Pacifica Garden's goal is "education and enjoyable hands-on learning: about plants and the environment (including a nature center, a botanical garden, 'the caterpillar,' and a horticulture school), they are also about music and the arts (the Arts Guild and recording studio), and about community and green economics."

Pacifica Garden contains 540 acres, seven different bodies of water, interpretive trails, habitat for many different species of birds, catch-and-release fishing on ponds, and even a gold mine.

This is a photo of their "wedding garden."  The garden and "barn" are available to be rented out for weddings.

This huge barn was built by Steve Miller, the rock musician, when he owned some of this property in the 1970's and 1980's.  He lived here for nearly a decade; raising alfalfa, cows and chickens.

This is the recording studio Steve Miller built inside of the "barn."  Since Steve Miller has now "Flown Like An Eagle," to Ketchum, Idaho,  it is now used by Dennis Dragon and the Dragon Family Foundation.

Pacifica Gardenis also home of the Pacifica Arts Guild.  Marlene Alt, who teaches Sculpture at Southern Oregon University, will soon be teaching classes here and creating outdoor sculptures that will remain at Pacifica, A Garden In The Siskiyous.

This is the Pacifica Garden "Caterpillar."  It is a mobile science lab that reaches 7,000 children a year, by visiting their schools.  School classes may also arrange to come to Pacifica Garden for some fun, hands-on, nature education.

This structure is the "Lippincott house."  It is currently being repaired and restored, and Pacifica Garden hopes to use it one day as an artist's retreat.

Just walking through this structure, with its' many airy, large rooms, and magnificent views, you can envision what a great retreat and studios this could be.

The 200+ acre, botanical garden and nursery is slowly being planted.  They will be using a innovative irrigation system, which will filter and reclaim the water after it has been used by the plants.

In these far off hills at Pacifica Garden, the Native American tribes gather for a large pow-wow each year.  They reserve an area to camp among nature as their ancestors did.  There they practice the tribal rights of long ago so that tribal customs will not be forgotten.
